In the first scenario, there's only an Information Sender and an Information Recipient - there's no request involved.

In the second scenario, there are exactly two actors.  The Information Request Sender is the Information Recipient (they ask for data, then they get it).  Similarly, the Information Request Recipient is the Information Sender (they receive a request for data, then they provide it)  Each actor is given two names because each is both a sender and a receiver, though of different things.

To reduce confusion, we will eliminate the terms sender and receiver from the roles entirely and change to Information Source and Information Consumer.  These terms will be used consistently across all of the different exchange mechanisms.  In derived implementation guides where the roles aren't intended to be generic, we'll use more specific rule names such as "payer system" or "clinical system".

      Request (Solicited Communication)

      Actor Interaction Diagram

      • What is the difference between "Information Request Sender" and "Information Recipient"?
      • What is the difference between "Information Request Recipient" and "Information Sender"?

It reads to me as if a "Information Request Sender" is asking a "Information Request Recipient" to pull the request together and have an "Information Sender" send the information to an "Information Recipient". This means there are 4 different actors, even if they are the within same software, and the interaction needs to be depicted as such within the diagram by using 4 swimlanes.

Please add a discussion explaining the difference between these actors and, if necessary, update the diagram to depict the 4 actors and their roles seperately.

      Notes:

      • If the corrected Unsolicited Communication diagram depicts these same 2 pairs of actors, then the above comment applies to this diagram as well.
