For EVS, we do make recommendations in our documentation for some of our elements where applicable (e.g.: for clinical trial chemotherapy drugs), but given our primary alignment with US Core, there are choices which bind us to a preferred coding system (e.g.: SNOMED for condition codes).

We have explored the caDSR content, particularly through navgation of the Common Data Elements (CDE) browser. We have found that the fit with mCODE is difficult since many of the CDE elements are pre-coordinated and don't easily translate to many elements which have as post-coordinated.

For example, there is no easy match to find a code exactly matching adenocarcinoma, unless it's pre-coordinated with the cancer type (e.g.: Esophageal Adenocarcinoma AJCC Edition 8 Clinical Group Stage, etc.). This pre-coordination makes alignment with mCODE (or many FHIR IGs that align with Argonaut) very difficult.

Nevertheless, for both, we will consider their use as needed and note both as alternative elements and terminologies in our documentation.

      Comment:

Hopefully NCI has been involved in this project because many institutions have to use their standards. We are mandated to use the caDSR and EVS terminologies!
