      There is no assumption in mCODE on the type of system that might contain cancer data. Data might be in an Electronic Health Record System (EHR-S), but some data could be in a PACs system, a public health database, or other source. The assumption is that diverse systems could become interoperable using FHIR with the mCODE profiles assuring consistency at the data level. Data owners would implement a FHIR server to allow the data to be accessed. Alternatively, a proprietary interface could provide that data to a more central system, which in turn provides a FHIR interface.
