      Will update the specification to indicate that it does not, itself, impose any expectation on the duration of records retention after a patient's coverage ceases, only that the payer expose all relevant information it still retains. (And that if no details are retained, but the payer still recognizes the patient, that it should respond with an OperationOutcome indicating that no records remain to be shared.)

      Comment:

      Payers have indicated that in the currnet state there is a limited storage and access to data for members who are no longer enrolled in a plan. As a result, this use case may be limited by the duration of payer data retention. Could be addressed by CMS in their final rule but recommend that the IG suggest an approach that payers think is reasonable for records retention. Other legal requirements may apply.
