Provider role is primary care, specialist and provider type is dentist, physician, etc. The NUCC Health Care Provider Taxonomy code set does not define a provider role or provider type. It only defines provider specialty. Any perceived role or type is simply that, i.e. perceived. The codes may not be parsed apart and are unique ten-position alphanumeric codes for provider specialty.
