While the logical spec identifies and defines the individual parameters and components of searchpath-related capabilities, I could not find anywhere that provided a clear explanation of the approach and how it works.

I expect implementers would have trouble understanding what they need to do to support this.  I'd suggest that the spec outline the overall approach somewhere, complete with examples, so that all of the details here make better sense in the context of an overall understanding.
