The Birth and Fetal Death reporting is very specific in only allowing the birth (aka natural) mother. So we wanted to ensure that only a related person with the correct code was included in those profiles.

Birth Defects reporting on the other hand is also interested in different "flavours" of a mother.

The participant profiles imply a hiearchy. Can you explaim the reasoning behind having both a RelatedPerson - Mother and a RelatedPerson - Mother Natural where the variance amounts to a fixed code rather than allowing a choice of codes in the parent profile?

I acknowlege that the amount of "lumping and splitting" prrovides design tradeoffs; interested in the group's thinking on how you came to this design. The same goes for Fathers as well.
