The Contraindication resource is not used to capture "rules", but rather a record of a specific detected violation of a "rule". At the moment, we don't have a specific resource for capturing patient preferences. It could be introduced in the future. Whether it will be as narrow as "patient preference" or a broader isn't yet clear. For DSTU 2, you'll need to use Flag, AllergyIntolerance or Observation.

Existing Wording: Indicates an actual or potential clinical issue with or between one or more active or proposed clinical actions for a patient. E.g. Drug-drug interaction, Ineffective treatment frequency, Procedure-condition conflict, etc.

      Comment:

Would contraindication be used for patient preferences such as "no blood products - religious reasons" or would Flag be used? If flag, will it trigger DS when blood products are ordered?

ContraindicationCategory does not seem to address this question.
