These principles are defined by MnM already. The principles are that names should be consistent across resources unless there's a business driver for them to be different. Consistency should particularly be adhered to within families of resources (order resources, clinical resources, medicaiton resources, etc.) This is part of the QA phase for resources. Resources can't reach FMM 3 or above until this process has occurred. It will be a focus for both Patient Care and OO as part of the next release.

      Comment:

Please define some principles about how resource attribute content in FHIR is ORDERED and NAMED within a resource. Compare ProcedureRequest and DiagnosticOrder and ReferralRequest, which according to FHIR section 4.7.2, could be used for the same thing depending on context. This required cross-domain decisions to be made, and some will not like it. That was what I thought alternate names was supposed to help with across domains.

At this point, I don't have any clue why one resource says patient, and the other says subject, and one resource puts it at the beginning and another at the end.
